Before and After

Voyager; 426pp; £5.99
Before and After

This was Matthew Thomas' first novel to be published. And when it did it was flying out the door. Everyone was talking about the book with the exploding sheep.

'Baaaaaah' said Colin

'Kabbbbooom! Said Kevin.

Being a Robert Rankin fan this book immediately grabbed me round the throat and shouted read me at it. The insanity of the idea of exploding animals has always been something close to my heart, ever since I saw my first cat explode on Monty Python. And I guess that’s why I like this book. Although It has extreme silliness it is also sane enough to be a good read. Matthew Thomas doesn't let the exploding sheep get in the way of some great story telling.

Nostradamus is alive and well and teaching for a living. But he knows too well that the end of times are near. But his actions alert the wrong type of people. A dodgy journalist who won't leave him alone for a start. And religious missionary Ted Trundell wants to wipe him out because he's effecting sales. The Welsh Liberation Front don't like him because he's bought a second home in the small down of Nod Degmra, now why does that ring a bell?

So dear old Proffesor Nosto has all this to deal with, when King Arthur returns as prophesised and has a football match with all the demons from hell.

If you don't buy this book you are missing out at the beginning. The next big thing is Matthew Thomas.
