what would you classify as the most appaling song ever to earn that spot?? for me there can only be 1...

from 1980.... St Winifred's School Choir - "There's No One Quite Like Grandma"

At least that was a proper song - for me the worst would have to be Mr. Blobby.

Here's a reference list to job people's memory...

Either of the Cliff Richards - they come back year after year at least the Blobby song stayed there.

Shakin' Stevens 'Merry Christmas Everyone' Hate it. As it was 1985 and I have an encyclopaedic knowledge of lyrics of songs from 85 - 87 I know all the words. I don't want to, I just do.

It was my time to tape the charts off the radio every sunday. Ah! You young 'uns won't understand the wonder of it all.

May I suggest that the BEST ever Xmas #1 was Iron Maiden with "Bring Your Daughter To The Slaughter". It knocked Cliff Richard off the top spot for Xmas 1990, but for some reason doesn't show up as the Xmas #1 in listings...hmmm? OK, so it actually toppled Sir Cliff in the week ending 5th Jan 1991, but who's counting...it's still within the 12 days of Xmas and all that guff!

A truly superb xmas #1, causing havoc to the Xmas chart countdowns...R1 didn't play it at all, and the NETWORK (not pepsi!) chart played 30 seconds of it and then went to a 'Coming Next Week' segment.

UP THE IRONS!

Hmmmm, pretty surreal for christmas but for an official xmas number one you would have to go a long way to beat Pink Floyd "Another Brick in the Wall" (1979) for most out of place and coolest ever with Queen "Bohemian Rhapsody at a close second (1975 and 1991).
As for worst.....
I'd have to go with Little Jimmy Osmond and "Long Haired Lover form Liverpool" (1972) - Twat Evil or Very Mad

Hippy Very Happy

Am I the only person in the world who hates that song?

And can't see what the fuss is about Pink Floyd?

Have to agree with captain fantastic on this one.....Another Brick in the Wall, better than some of the saccarine soaked crap that gets put out this time of year. Worst has to be Mr Blobby, met someone once who had a large collection of Blobby videos and I said "He's your kids favourite then?Oh no was the reply, I think he's fantastic dont you? I think you can all guess my answer.....
