it lets you select a song or artist then finds other stuff to listen to that you might like, you tell it weither you do or not and it starts to learn your tastes.

Yeah, I've been using for months... Thing is I had to tell it I lived in Maine. And keep the scripts or whatever that tells which part of the world a user is from blocked.

I've tried a few different searches:

1) Elliott Smith - 2 good tracks, 3 tracks that had basic similarities, but nothing like the lyrical content. 4/10

2) Lemonheads - Main reasons for liking the lemonheads are probably Evan Dando's quality of vocal and lyrical content. Frist 2 links were awful, then Weezer turned up, which was a bit better. After Weezer, I got the Lemonheads again. Teenage Fanclub followed that, so another good result. Then the Bevis Frond 'He'd Be a Diamond', which was very pleasing. 7/10, (9/10 without the first 2 results)

3) a curveball this time with the relatively unknown Puerto Muerto. It came up trumps with finding the band but the 1st suggested match was average, 2nd was a bit worse, 3rd was not very good. the first 3 matches didn't match the main part of Puerto Muerto, the dark humour and near-operatic style of one of the singers. 4th track a bit better. 5th track was very good. It was almost as if it had read my mind with my thumbs downs for the first 3 matches and went more leftfield.
3/10 (7/10 for last 2 matches)

Overall I reckon it was better at matching musically than by theme vocal timbre or style. I'll have a few more plays with this though for sure.

Thanks for sharing the link Very Happy

Anyone else had decent matches for searches?

Could we be witnessing the birth of Artificial Learning Intelligence on the Net? Is this how SkyNet becomes self aware?

Music, the best antidote for depression unless you're some maudlin poet who happens to play the guitar...they know who they are! Type in Nick Cave, you'll get a whole bunch of them, which oddly enough, doesn't include Morrisey, which was nice!

Another site that I've been pointed at for a similar thing is:

http://www.last.fm/

results were better for Elliott, Lemonheads and Puerto Muerto

Quite possibly, although hopefully with these beginnings, rather than coming to the conclusion that humanity is inferior and constructing a race of killer robots to wipe us out, instead SkyNet will merely reach the conclusion that we've all got shite taste in music and will construct a race of robotic musicians which will enslave humanity by making us sit down and listen to something decent for a change.....

Ummmm.
