I've seen people do tricks with linked avatars purely to get around that limitation. They link to an image that meets the requirements, then put another image in the location, and ta-da! Size limit ignored.
They might have fixed that now though.

You can't do that here, coz you can't link to an Avatar externally. Even if you use a URL link for your Avatar, it copies the file into the forum database and uses it from there.

That's alright then. I know a similar fix was put in place elsewhere too, I suspect the people at phpbb learnt from their mistakes.

That said we're usually a sensible sort anyway so it wouldn't be an issue.

Surely animated GIFs would take up too much KB considering the tiny maximum file size already in place?

If you'd read the forum posting guidelines you'd have seen that we can't use animated avatars.

I want a better avatar, but I don't know how to do it myself. Siobhan sent me the last one (for which I must take the time to thank her)

Thank you Siobhan! In Love

You can get loads of avatars from this site. There is only one drawback, most of them are 100*100 pixels and you will need to reformat them to 50*50 pixels and check the file size before posting here - not to difficult to do, paintshop pro or adobe photoshop will achieve this for you quite easily. If there is any one who wants one from this site but can't resize / format it then feel free to e-mail it to me and I'll do the deed and e-mail it back Very Happy
