Dear ALL

I need to find a hotel for something in 2008. Not primarilly a sproutlore event, but those of you who were at Aliens, Damn Fine and They came, will know what I mean.

It has to have a minimum of 80 bedrooms. Prefebly no more than 120, as it means a lot of non con people end up being there, but not a priority..

It should have one large room to seat theartre style 150 people.

Then other function rooms, with a variety of seating arrangements.

IT needs an outside, prefrebly grassd area for outdoor activities.

A lounge area adjacent to these function rooms would be best,
If there was a second Large room with a bar, that might suffice,

I am looking in the south of England, or near enough to London, but on the south coast would be OK. Essentially two other events in 2007 will be in the north and midlands, so rotation is required, also most Sproutlore members are in the south and a big con is on in Heathrow in '08 and we can pick up members from there.

Shepperton is an option, but I would like to open our options, hope tha makes sense.

please start looking, browsing, thinking.

Please post ideas

James

No suggestions at the moment, but is there anywhere suitable around Brighton? I always thought Brighton would be a great place for a con, especially if we have good weather. Maybe we could hire the pier (the one that didn't burn down).

With Brighton Tim and Loz would know better than I...
I can that The Birch Hotel in Haywards Heath [where I live] I think would be a tad under-sized for your needs, enough conference space and bars, but too few bedrooms, I think they have 50-60. Which is a shame 'cause it would be nice to have a convention within walking distance of the flat.
And suspect other hotels here would be too snobbish for anything like TC&SU.

James,

I think this might be just about ideal, location is good, room count is good and function room is good. I did go here about four (sorry - closer to six, as I have just been informed. Damm this aging process and the memory failure that goes with it) years ago for an Aliens convention (yeah OK, but it was a free ticket from the fan club head honcho) and they had all the various function rooms in use as demonstration rooms, sales room etc. The main hall (plenty of seating and all the tech stuff) was used for audience events and was ideal for this.
Not a bad bar or food either Smile Cant vouch for the accomadation as I didn't stop over but would imagine it's pretty standard "holiday inn" type of stuff.

Ian.

To be honest Andi I can't remember. Also, and this is the key factor, I hadn't been introduced to Large (this was pre-sproutlore) or the delights of real ale so therefore any pi** poor lager would have satisfied me Laughing

If I recall correctly that's the very hotel from ASMH and DFC, in which case I cast my mind back to a post-con article of how they drank the bar dry of such stuff. But can offer no other information.

Ian

a great choice of Hotel, I am totally impressed that you found the Moat House, and am of course even more impressed that you recall it from the same Aliens convention that it was reccomended to Stef and myself back in 1999.

It is a great hotel, but teh Bar layout now isnt so good and on top of that there are a lot more bedrooms than I could ever fill, so therefore I am casting about for other hotels.

Please all of you look around, think like Ian has, it realy helps.

Off list I have recived two suggestions, one of which really looks like a runner, and I am investigating, so it really does help.

I am sure all or many of you want stuff to happen, so help!

many thanks

James

Yep - that'll be the commisioned ones. See how daft are they, spending the money they get paid to be officers to buy the badges they need to prove they are officers Confused
