Lets put up some mensa crap questions.
Somebody sent five 'supposed' mensa questions to me the other day and reckoned I was gonna find them difficult... I had to answer them within 30 seconds or something, try for yourself, I hate this kind of crap, its meaningless.
Try not to yawn.

You are participating in a race. You overtake the second person. What position are you in?

If you overtake the last person, then you are...?

Maths next.
Do NOT use paper and pencil or a calculator. Try it.

Take 1000 and add 40 to it. Now add another 1000. Now add 30. Add another 1000. Now add 20. Now add another 1000
Now add 10. What is the total?

Silly question now.

Mary's father has five daughters: 1. Nana, 2. Nene, 3. Nini,
4. Nono.
What is the name of the fifth daughter?

Tedious last one

There is a mute person who wants to buy a toothbrush. By imitating the action of brushing one's teeth he successfully expresses himself to the shopkeeper and the purchase is done.
How would blind person indicate buying a pair of glasses?

Can't be bothered to post the answers cos its so bleedin obvious.

Anyone got anymore?

G

We have a regular telephone patron at the library that we call Miss D, for Dictionary since all her questions are spellings or definitions. Today she called and said, "There's this woman at work. She's really smart. What is menses?" I held myself back from replying that menses was what made me unwilling to put up with her some days and instead told her what Mensa was. That's probably the first time I've gotten a smile out dealing with Miss D.

Of is quite difficult for a lot of people to process, which is why they're more likely not to count it.

As it has been decided absoloutly I am not a mensa candidate, I decided to have a look at the web site and see how much money I have saved....

Turns out they are not that clever:

http://www.mensa.org.uk/mensa/joining.html

Check out the line '1 in 50 people have an IQ in the top 2%' (second line in top right hand box)

There is nothing wrong with that statement and nor is it as ludicrously obvious as it might at first seem.

Actually, it is ludicrously obvious because IQ scores are always manipulated to give a perfect bell curve. Whatever your raw score, 100 will always be normal for whatever group you took the test with, and the standard deviation will always be 15. See, you do actually learn something getting a psychology degree, just nothing useful.

I believe the Mensa tests have a maximum score and are not "adjusted" after the fact.
I can't be arsed to look up the real maximum (140ish IIRC)

anyway, let's hypothesise that the maximum score is 100, there is no reason to suppose that 2% of score 98% or above, especially if there's a bell curve going on. The statement is ambiguous: if it had said "1 in 50 people score in the top 2% of the population" then I agree, it's stating the bleedin' obvious; however, if it meant "1 in 50 are in the top 2% of the score range", then actually I'd be surprised that it was that high.

Unless I'm obviously not a candidate for MENSA and I'm just not seeing the reasoning. Wink

Anyone else here read "200% of Nothing"?
