Snooker has WORLD championship now? Are the entrants three blokes from Barnsley and one confused looking Chinese guy with a ping pong bat? Wink

The only snooker I ever watched was the first 30 seconds accidentally when they'd taken Star Trek off and replaced it with the fucking snooker. I hate it on that principle alone.

I used to watch snooker back in the old days when it used to be the same old faces, Ray Reardon etc. I lost interest when the faces started to change each year.

I used to hate the way my favourite programmes got axed whenever a sporting event turned up. I used to think they had a list of all my favourites and pulled them accordingly. I notice East Enders never got moved or axed without so much as an apology. Wimbledon and Olympics were the worst.

I so don't miss having a broadcast TV.

Yep, just once I'd like to hear "In a change to our scheduled programming this afternoon's back to back coverage of the premiership has been replaced with some quality science-fiction programming."

Is there a reason why women are not allowed to play in the so-called World Championships? It has always confused me. Since it can't be about strength or endurance as it is in other sports, why do we never see them in the finals? Are they all knocked out in earlier heats or is this just another anachronism of sport that has yet to mature in to the modern world?

I ask merely for information...and so I can dislike snooker even more than I do already.

My mate Steven has a theory that it is because the BBC is scared that women bending over snooker tables would mean they could only show the sport after the 9pm watershed!

I think it's because women have better things to with heir time than push little balls around a table with a stick. ;D

Personally, I found trying to play snooker very difficult. When visiting my relatives in Yorkshire, I found that the Snooker room was men only. At university, any girls on the table would be harrassed until they got off. Snooker has a macho, beer drinking image (God know why!), so it's hard for a woman to get a break (sorry) in that environment and actually get enough practice in to reach champion level. (Of course I was at University a long time ago and times may have changed, but the no women rule in Yorkshire still exists Rolling Eyes )

Allison Fisher did it, she got into the male rankings, then found herself underappreciated, and went to America to take up nine ball pool.
In 2005 she earned more than any pro player, male or female.

I enjoy playing pool but again, when I was at University, pubs with a pool table had a winner stays on policy which meant that I couldn't play with my friends but would have to play a strange male who was guaranteed to trounce me.

As Nurse said there, it's not male only, women can enter as well. Also on the "World" front, people from any country can enter too. (Unlike an American "World series")

There is a female referee who regularly bends over the table now, so no go on that theory

If there was a problem with bending, they'd have to take Wimbledon off the air. That's got bending and knickers!

i only tried to play snooker once on a full sized table
i didnt realise how hard you do have to hit the white
ball to make it to the other end of the table!

i do play pool but only seem to get good at it
after about 5 pints of larger
but my girlfriend regularly beats me good at pool

Snooker!

Load of balls in my opinion. Laughing

Nah, seriously. Good to play but tedious as hell to watch on TV. Not that I watch TV anymore.

I love to play snooker, but I'm rubbish. That table is bigger than it looks.
