Oooh, shiny.

I agree, it does seem smaller on the stand.

Jesus, that's just very very cool.

It looks good and sturdy, and heavy duty kick ass. I like the use of Meccanno, especially as it looks old.

Dare I say, its very steam punk looking. Or is it just Fictionaly Fantastic?

Thanks for your comments. I should have explained from the start that only the gun is going on the cover. I built the stand simply for it to stand on. And, as you will notice, the Meccano on the gun is burnished metal and that of the stand is not. This is because the wire-brushing of the Meccano to bring it up all nice and steely, has to be done outside (otherwise we end up with a nice film of paint dust all over everything). And it snowed, so I couldn't do the burnishing of the stand outside. But I will.
I have to say that building this gun has given me a taste for constructing such things, I'm going to the craft show at the Brighton Centre this Friday, I wonder what amazing things I can find there

I'm liking the embosed bit at the front and the classic meccano ( none of this new plastic crap).
Have you thought of adding a bit of "Zebo" (black grate polish) around the nozel to make it look like it has been fired? Put a bit on the end and using a cloth streak it back. - I used this technique on my full size (6ft ish) optimus prime to make him look used and worn. work really well and it smells nice.

I will make my full size (6ft) lego man one day! I just need to find the 25th hour of the day

Thanks Dr O, all suggestions gratefully accepted. I am seriously toying with the idea of a full sized robot as a long term project. And possibly a headpiece for the next book cover after Retromancer.
God, I love my job and I am so grateful to have it.
Thanks everyone for helping me keep it. Very Happy

Nice one Robert Thumbs Up

You keep on writing, and we'll keep on keeping you in a job Laughing And if the writing goes tits up (which obviously it won't) you can come around to my house and make things, and I won't even ask you to do it in just your scuddies or anything Rolling Eyes

The raygun just got Boing-Boinged - so evidently we're not the only people to appreciate the work.

Wow, that is rather cool. I hope no one is boing boinging my wife, Raygun! As soon as I have a finished cover design I'll post it here, the model will be going up to London to be professionally photoed soon.
