So, The new Doctor is to be revealed on BBC1 at 5.35 tonight.
Who would you like to see play the Doctor?
I'd love to see Eddie Izzard in the role but that isn't going to happen.

I think Eddie Izzard would make a great Doctor too...

Perhaps they should get Tom Baker back into the role Grin

Wasn't it Tom Baker himself who claimed to have accurate inside information that Izzard had got the job when the series first came back? He does like a good wind up does Mr. Baker.

Whilst I love Eddie Izzard, I don't actually think he's a particularly good actor.

I just hope they pick someone who makes me go "Ooh, that'll be interesting", as I did with both Ecclestone and Tennant. Please please please NOT James Nesbitt.

Indeed....

My first reaction was "Who?", followed by "Ohhh him", followed by "Well, should be interesting"....

Brave choice, but better than some of the names that the so-called media have been flinging around recently.

I believe it's actually 13 - with the 13th as the evil doctor.

Only seen the new chap in one thing before, that programme bassed on a Philip Pullman story a few years back (with Billy in too). Seemed decent enough.

If The Doctor 700-800 years old, how long was he supposed to have be William Hartnell for?

I thought that they should do Paul McGann again, and do stories that were before the recent two. I thought he'd make a good Doctor, although I didn't like that film very much.

Anyway, pretty sure it's 13 as stated above.

Sure there's room for changes though.

Why does Paul McGann count, but Peter Cushing doesn't?

I know he was never in the picture but I thought Mark Gatiss would have made a good Doctor

It's 12 regenerations so 13 bodies, however the regeneration cycle was under the control of the timelords (The Master was given a whole new cycle of 12 regenerations)
With the timelords gone there is in theory nobody to impose the limit.
New chap seems a bit young, I'd have preferred an older Doctor to follow DT.

Actually the Valeyard (the "evil Doctor") mention in Trial of a Time Lord)occurs "somewhere between the Doctor's 12th and final incarnation". There's no mention of him being the 13th.

As Tosh said, there is no reason now to suppose the Doctor has a limit to his regenerations now. With now Time Lords left, the rule bok could go out of the window.

I like the look of the new blokw. My first reaction was shock, but as he started talking, I warmed to him very quickly. Seems to know the weight of responsibility he's carrying.

Paul McGann counts because:

a) We saw McCoy regenerate into him.
b) It was a TV movie intended to kick-start a new TV series, which it failed to do.

Paul McGann's doctor did however go on to feature in multiple radio & audio stories, albeit voiced by Richard E. Grant (which is why Grant doesn't count either, coz he's just playing the 8th doc the same as McGann).

Peter Cushing doesn't count because he wasn't playing a different Doctor - he was just playing Hartnell's 1st Doctor on the big screen. Also, the Cushing movies were made before they came up with the idea of regeneration.

I've wanted Paterson Joseph, but he turned up in Parting of The Ways to get exterminated by a Dalek which could have been a not so subtle hint that he or the crew weren't interested. After all his performance as The Marquis de Carabas is probably what I and others are hoping his potential Doctor to be based on and he's already played that role.

I'm agnostic on this Doctor, I've nothing to base a judgement on, but I hope he got the role on something stronger than having the right hair for the part.
His appearance would lend well to a darker and moodier Doctor more elegantly dressed than the 9th and 10th.
