Sprouts that is.

This year, we will be par-boiling ours, then frying them off with leek and smoked bacon lardons.

Ohhh, see you - very TV chef Laughing

I hold by the Sarah Kennedy (her of Radio 2 - sorry it's my age) system - put them on to boil in April and they should be ready by Christmas Very Happy

No sprouts for us. We haven't had them in years. My Christmas dinner will be a cheat. Frozen roasters (in goose fat though), Frozen broccoli and carrots. And a beef joint in a tin foil tray, with Auntie Bessies yorkshire puds, and Bisto gravy granuals.

I have a good excuse though. I'm in work now and Christmas night. So most of Christmas day I'll be in bed. And I never taught my hubby to cook. Confused

To prepare the perfect sprout:

Carefully peel off the outer, dry leaves; leaving only the juicy ones within.

Par boil in salted water for ten minutes.

Fry them gently in a little butter for 5 minutes.

Throw the bastards in the bin where they belong.

Smile

I can't stand them myself, though I'm assured by the rest of the family that they're lovely. I put a couple of token sprouts on my plate, then smother them in gravy to cover up the taste.

Never liked them. I do enjoy feeding them to my children though.

Singing sprouts, good... eating sprouts, not so good... the parents love them tho, so for months either side of Xmas i have to suffer the smell of steamed sprout, at least if they're boiled for long enough they only taste as bad as cabbage...

Christmas cards with sprouts on? How cool! Makes a change from Chrismas puddings and the such.
