Sounds like a good title for book. Any views on the proposed but rather looking forward too sacrilege?

Could it get any worse than the latest movie?

I like to think not.

I've just figured out what this is about....

http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2008/sep/17/douglasadams?gusrc=rss&feed=books

I'm really not sure the series needs another book to be honest. I'd much rather read another Dirk Gently book as I think there was a lot of potential left un-tapped there.

But, let's give the guy a chance and see what he does with it.

Of all the people they could have asked to do it, I think Eoin Colfer is a brilliant choice. And especially as he'll be writing it in his style and not trying to copy Adams'.

Oh I think he's an excellent writer, I'm just a bit puzzled as to why they're doing it at all....

Would Adams have written another Hitchhikers book if he was still here? For me at least, the tone of "Mostly Harmless" made it pretty obvious he was done with it.

OK, maybe I'm wrong....

Quote:
Adams himself had plans for a sixth Hitchhiker book, saying in an interview: "People have said, quite rightly, that Mostly Harmless is a very bleak book. And it was a bleak book. I would love to finish Hitchhiker on a slightly more upbeat note, so five seems to be a wrong kind of number, six is a better kind of number."

Was mostly harmless the one where Arthur meets up with 'Fenny'? and discovers that he can fly if he just forgets how to fall...?

No, that was So Long And Thanks For All The Fish - which really should have been the last book because it had kind of an upbeat ending.

Adams was then (I think) pressured into writing Mostly Harmless when he really didn't want to, and it ended up being a very bleak thing indeed. Something which according to the above quote he later regretted.

I'll definitely read it, but I think all parties involved deserve a big slap for coming up with the idea!

Stop this right now it's all getting very silly.

If he's not going to write in the Adams style whats the point in suggesting he's trying to complete the series by writing the book that Adams himself had planned to write. How will he ever capture the feeling of the other books if he simply does it in his own style.

I for one am happy with the books as they stand. If he wants to write a stand alone book about the characters and other adventure they had along the way all well and good but don't mess with the ending of a story arc that i love.. I don't think i will read it no matter how good the reviews may be.

So you've ruined the ending of Mastly Harmless for me!...

One would hope that DA made some notes or something before he died, if he was thinking of doing another one... Like Robert Jordan, who was aparrantly drilling the fella [stevenson?] who's been left to finish off the Wheel of Time

Erm...... how? And can you really call spoilers on a 16 year old book? Smile

I don't think he did. I think Adams basically felt a bit guilty that he'd written Mostly Harmless whilst in a bad mood, and wanted to please his fans by finishing the series off in a nicer way at some point. But he was busy working on other things when he popped it, and I'm pretty sure all of his notes went into The Salmon of Doubt.

By definition a spoiler is a comment that gives away the ending or plot of a book/film or TV show, so... yes... the age of said item is irrelevant as it is still new to the viewer and theefore the comment is still a spoiler...
