This got started on the "Newbie" thread, and I couldn't work out a way of splitting it out coherently, so I thought I'd start a new one.

Trip to Alton Towers, probably sometime in September, who's up for it?

Lee has set up a magic gadget to reach consensus on a date, here:

http://www.roobyroo.co.uk/date-o-chooser.php

[edit] and there's now a poll above where you can register your interest (or lack of it)

RHFA, when's the latest you can get cheap train tickets for Sept sort of time? Logic would suggest we bring the poll to a close and make a decision just prior to then.

They only do tickets within 3 months of travel and I don't think I could get an apex fare after the start of August. I could probably get singles each way, that might even work out cheaper.

Ooh, sounds fun.

Jack is insisting I take him to Legoland during the summer. Maybe we could combine the trip to do both. Speaking of which, anyone want to join us in LegoLand?

My tips for Alton Towers are:
Pick a midweek date, about a week before a major holiday (just before the schools break is perfect). Most people will be waiting for the holiday itself. Big mistake.
Get there early. It's no use arriving when the gets open, you need to be waiting, with yout ticket ready, at the gates, when they open.
Do the popular rides first. Before they get busy.

I remember doing the big corkscrew roller coaster about five times in succession. Good thing I hadn't had breakfast.

I don't think I could cope with a day watching you lot go silly on the rides!

I'm afraid I'm out. I'm off to Portugal the last week of September so I could do without spending the money I'd need to for Alton Towers.

Ah, but bag-holding allows for such humour as "Who does the vaseline belong to?"

I'd have to prepare for slight dampness.

Prepare? Dampness? Can't you just bring a jacket?

Bag holding is boring though! There's no way I'd be able to have the bomb squad out more than once.

Last time we were there Random got "slightly damp" on Ripsaw. Took him some time to dry out.

It was the log one that really got me - all because I splashed you guys in the back. And then the next ride caught the few dry bits of me.

I forgot about that. If you hadn't splashed us we probably wouldn't have ducked.
