We got a fantastic review in today's Daily Mail - 4 stars! Here's what they said:

DRAMA - THE BRIGHTONOMICON - Today, 6.30pm, BBC7 ****
Rescued from death by drowning, young Rizla is taken into a strange world of papal plots, time travel and slap-up free meals. A full-on, 13-part adaptation of Robert Rankin's Brentford Trilogy fantasy. Highly entertaining.

How cool is that, eh?

It is now 6pm and only 30 mins away from the debut episode. Helen Aitkin, the continuity announcer just plugged the show as a "Radio Premiere" and amusingly listed the "all star cast" as including "David Warner, Jason Isaacs and Iain Lee"...now I think Iain is a legend of radio, but even he would be amused to be listed alongside David and Jason...ho ho!

N Smile

I'm quite pleased with myself - I remembered it was on, managed to bath & pajama youngest just beforehand, so was able to sit in peace & chuckle.
Well done all, polished performances, nicely imagined, & the chap who voices Rune does it just the way my brain has for all these years!

Wow! Just listened to it on the tellybox, it may even have swayed the other half to read a book! Shocked

Its truely smashing! Congrats to all involved and big kudos (as is the parlance of the present times) and smoochies to Roberto!

But I have to ask, we play a game at home of "who is that/whats he been in?" and its the first time Ive tried it with a radio programme, so this may be old news to those that have the audio cd, but heres my guess...

Is Hugo Rune played by David Warner (of Time Bandits and a cardassian on Star Trek)?

x

Thanks for all the really kind comments guys....glad you enjoyed ep 1...just 12 more to go Thumbs Up

If you feel like helping us persuade the BBC to make more Rankin radio, you could pop over to the BBC7 message boards and say a few nice things about the series there (hint hint). The head of BBC7 and the boss at Radio 4 both check out the comments, so it would certainly be good to show that we have attracted some listeners. Here's the link:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mbbbc7/F2574420?thread=5757750

In the meantime I think Robert may still be bouncing around all excited somewhere in London, so I am off to see if i can find him Smile

The missus is out, the boy is asleep (2 things which were not true when it was on "live"), so I'm about to listen to it on the wondrous technology of iPlayer....

Great stuff, enjoyed it thoroughly - that David Warner is a bit good isn't he?

Special level of saddness here - I "nipped into work" to check a few "important things" seeing as how I wont be there til Wednesday

Such as

- has the Royal Mail delivered my shiny thing?
- have we got that all important contract?
- can I be any more helpful for my customers?
- how easy is it to pinch the speakers off my computer?

It seems

- No
- Testing isn't over yet. We should know by Wednesday (woot!!)
- Probably, but then they shouldn't be idiots and READ THE MANUAL
- Very!! Laughing Embarassed

Great show chaps!!

Ah, I'm home. That was an experience. had to listen on a little portable DAB jobbie with headphones, while steel bands played all around me in Hyde park and I lost the station and then the signal and a nice young man and his girlfriend helped me out. OOh the tension. But Lordy Lordy, I heard it, my words spoken by David Warner and other great actors and being broadcast on the BBC, I never believed such a thing could ever happen.
It was...emotional.
Thank you Neil and all who took part and played a part.
Truly wonderful, thank you so much.
And another 12 to go.
Blimey! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
