Please note that we have increased the size of Avatars allowed on your profile.

Avatars can now be up to 100x100 pixels, and up to 12Kb in size. You can also now link to a remote avatar stored elsewhere (which can be more than 12Kb, but must still be no more than 100x100 pixels).

Animated Avatars are still banned, and will be dealt with by means of a sharp stick! Smile

If anyone has any problems or wants help with re-resizing a bigger picture, just post here and we'll see what we can do.

You could try saving it as a GIF rather than a JPEG, that should get the file size down.

Yep, I use Paint.net too and it's really bad at JPEG compression - every time I edit a JPEG with it it ends up bigger.

Your best option is either GIF or PNG - both can be uploaded as far as I know.

If you have trouble getting your icon under the file size limit, try making it a few pixels smaller!

GIF, JPEG and PNG are all supported.

Here's some free image editors you can try out...

The Gimp (very powerful, but sometimes not the most intuative): http://www.gimp.org/windows

Paint.NET: http://www.eecs.wsu.edu/paint.net/

Pixia: http://park18.wakwak.com/~pixia/

PhotoPlus (from Serif): http://www.freeserifsoftware.com/

Ultimate Paint (both free and shareware versions): http://www.ultimatepaint.com/

ImageForge: http://www.cursorarts.com/ca_imffw.html

Hope one of these suits you!

James
