Robert you could come to my shop to do a signing, though we don't sell too many books, but you know it would be a laugh. And we'd put the finest malts out and everything.

And you can watch karen do her accue puncture bit Smile

And then i could have the only signed copy, signed in my shop Smile

Though i'm not too sure that me standing outside shouting 'Robert Rankin here today' really classes as advertising....

Best i come to see you then....

lol

Dr O, the book is scheduled for release on 27th December. But the tour will be throughout January. So it is one a year. But there will be a very big event in July 2009.

Is their a reason why you are releasing it just after xmas? Surely it would make more financial sense to release it before xmas!

Any Hints on the big Event neat year? I have just convinced the missus after many years that going to one your events would actally be fun and not suicide.

I am not one hundred percent certain of anything much. But the event next year is to do with Rankin's hundreth birthday party (which is to say that I will be 60 and my wife 40). There will be another wedding involved and that will involve dressing up. And it's going to be an absolute blinder and as soon as dates are known they will be published to give everyone a chance to get the dressing up organised and the rooms booked in advance. This is my SIXTIETH birthday and I want as many folk there as possible.

Come on now folks, has no one had a chance to speak to their local bookstore yet? I want to impress my publisher!

What can I do? Shall I just ring up Waterstones and tell them to get in touch?

Just explain that Robert Rankin is doing a thirty date tour with his thirtieth book in January and would they like him to come and do a signing. And if they say yes then get the name of who I should speak to and their address and phone number and post it here.
Piece of cake, yes?
bestest
Robert
PS And thanks.

Wouldn't it be up to your publisher to arrange book signing venues etc?

Yes, but it's Robert's idea to do 30 dates so he is trying to get us to check out stores in person, so he can impress his publisher by presenting them with a list of interested stores.

Indeed - typically the publishers are a bit crap at this sort of thing, which is why we haven't had Robert doing a signing in Newcastle for several years, the publishers either can't be arsed or don't think it's worth it.

So by proactively giving them a list of 30 places that actually want a signing, they can't really refuse.

Am gonna ring Waterstones in Newcastle this weekend.

Absolutely Andi and the trouble is that entire towns and cities slip through the net. The salemen of Orion go out and canvass shops for signings but people forget to email or things get overlooked or forgotten or whatever.
My publicist is on the job but imput from readers is a positive thing. There are towns and cities that I haven't been to for years, Newcastle amongst them. So please please everyone ask at your local store.
Please.
