Announcing... The utterly unofficial.....

NASSPAP ReuniCon - Northern And Scottish Sprouties Past And Present Reunion Convention

Calling all Sprouts from the Northern half of this fair isle - and also those from the Southern half who don't mind venturing North....

As most of the official Sproutlore events of the past couple of years have been held in the London/Brighton area, we Northerners who aren't able to travel easily due to family/work/budget constraints haven't had a chance to meet up to talk the toot.

Well, now here's your chance.

WHERE? The beautiful historic (and pub-filled) city of Carlisle.
WHEN? Friday 1st - Sunday 3rd August 2008.

THE PLAN (SO FAR):

Meet up on the Friday afternoon/evening in a pub somewhere in Carlisle.
Spend Saturday daytime doing something extremely fun and possibly educational, but also involving pubs.
Spend Saturday night talking the toot and supping the sup.
Drift off back to reality on Sunday morning.

Travelodge have recently opened a hotel right next to Carlisle station, and currently all rooms are available at the special advance rate of 29 per room per night - bargain!

Link: http://www.travelodge.co.uk/find_a_hotel/hotel/hotel_id/362/CarlisleCentral

Extensive research shows that Carlisle is extemely easy to get to from anywhere in the North of England and from Scotland, as well as being pretty accessible to the rest of the country too - being as it is located right at the end of the M6 and on the West Coast Mainline.

All those interested in attending, please post in this thread!

Thumbs Up

Why does that weekend seem familiar to me?

Fooking sweet! I live in Dumfries and I get free train travel.... If I am off work (and I will be by hook or by crook) then I will be there! High time we had a sproutlore event north of the border though ;o)

We are actually considering venturing north for this, as it's been a while since we've seen you lot.
A couple of questions/recommendations though: travelodges are notorious for the absence of the Hotel Bar which in my experience is essential for proper drinking till the early hours of the morning (not being much of a one for room parties myself, since if anyone had such a party in a room next to me when I was trying to kip I would be forced to massacre them all). Though the cheapness does appeal, is there somewhere approaching this value that may have barrage? Or has this travelodge bucked the trend?

Nice one Tim, would be great if you could make it.

The Carlisle Travelodge is absolutely brand spanking new - it literally only opened 2 weeks ago - and I am reliably informed that it does have a bar! Not sure about opening hours though, I shall check that out.

Well we had Kilt.con about 5 years ago in Glasgow - another totally unofficial get-together but it was a hoot.

If you want these things, you have to organise 'em yourself - which is how this Carlisle thing came about.....

Meeeeee. Is Carlisle on the left side or the right?

And this is for Northerners and Southeners, I'm in the middle does that count?

Talie, it's on the left side, just before you get to Scotland.... Smile

Right at the end of the M6 if you're on the roads, or at the junction of the West Coast Mainline and the Trans-Pennine Express line if you're on the rails.

And yes, it's open to people from anywhere and everywhere, we're just making it easier for us lazy Northern types....

For those Facebookers amongst us, I've set this up as an Event:

http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=15872061500

I've invited all the Sprouts I have on my friends list, but that doesn't cover everyone. Please feel free to pass on the invite to anyone else in your friends list!

I shall have a word with my beloved and see if we can make it.
We may have to bring the tribe with us though. Very Happy
