Sorry Timmeh, the wording you chose to use had me somewhat confused. To Me having "shat upon" something would be a derogatory term. Meaning that its was an insult to do the remake, if you see what I mean. Battlestar Galactica (the new one) doesnt so much crap on the old one as wipe the shoddy, piss poor, naff and generally crap show from the memory.
To me the new BSG is what should have been. Its just a shame it took 25 years or so to get there. |

Maybe it's a regional thing? Where I come from "X shits on Y" has always meant "X makes Y look really bad" or "X beat Y really badly" in some game or sporting event. _________________ |

I believe the new Reggie series is more of a "new takes from the original source material" than a remake too... _________________ Just Have Fun |

[quote="reddragon70"]Actually the 1978 version of Lordof The Rings (also known as "That Ralph Bakshi Sham") does not trully count as the project was never completed. Many people would say this is a good thing. Mostly cos it was shite.
[/quoteis this the 'cartoon' one as i really enjoyed it even though it isnt complete |

Yeah its the cartoon one. After Bakshi made this he rose to even greater heights. The New Adventures Of Mightymouse!
Its a shame though. Bakshi was a damned fine animator. Look at Heavy Metal and Wizards, both damned fine cartoon movies. His LOTR was at best an ill advised attempt, which I believe was screwed by the studios rather than Bakshi himself. |

Well I thought it was rather good. Captured the spirit of Reggie, and it was actually rather funny too, which always helps. _________________

(Obviously) it wasn't as good as the original, but I did like it.
Clunes was great & there were definitely some funny stuff in there. Though his work colleagues weren't up to much, bring back CJ, David Harris-Jones & Tony Webster _________________ Just Have Fun |

Ah. I thought Clunes was on his usual feck-poor form, was with cast that made him look better than he was and switched it off when they made a self-harm gag that could have worked better if written by a chav. _________________

I lasted 15 minutes. While I rather like Clunes' cold, dismissive, abrasive persona in Doc Martin, it doesn't work for me when transferred to Reggie Perrin who in my mind will always be a rather pathetic downtrodden figure. Clunes' character didn't have the right air of impotent, ineffectual, embittered sarcasm for me. Maybe that's more true to the book, I don't know; it's not for me. Plus all the references to modern technology seemed shoehorned in; it was like the scriptwriters had, realising they need to update it for modern times, set themselves a target for how many times a minute someone had to say the word "laptop". And the canned laughter FFS. I don't mind a bit of canned laughter, but there needs to at least have been a joke before it; even when I don't find a joke funny I can usually tell that it was meant to be a joke, but these chuckles seemed to have been without cause or perhaps just to fill up every pause in the dialogue. The virtual studio audience seemed to have been on day-release from a secure facility for the pathologically amused. Needless to say I won't be admitted there anytime soon. _________________ |

Actually it was recorded infront of a live studio audience.
My dad says it was like Dr Martin in The Office (he wasn't too keen) _________________ Just Have Fun

Sure sounded like it came out of a can. And there was feck all that was funny. Maybe the audience was sane and Clunes farted in a rehearsal so they just used that one laugh over and over - that would be highly symbolic. _________________
