Have to admit that the new movie looks pretty good. And I HATE star trek, and i do mean HAAAAAATE! Mind you its entirely possible that we have seen the best bits of the film. All in 30 seconds. Worrying isnt it?
Well hopefully it will be good. but not as good as I hope Watchmen is gonna be |

Saw it yesterday. One of my friends has already seen it twice. It's entertaining, very much a split off in a new direction. _________________ A Random Me

Saw it yesterday, going back to see it again today. If I didn't have a job I'd go and see it tomorrow as well. _________________ What would Yoda do? |

Has anyone bought the new HD box set of the original Star Trek? They've re touched all the special effects and made all the planets more realistic apparently. Not sure I want them messing around with something that wasn't broke but on the other hand it is an excuse to sit in front of Peters t.v drinking his beer and having a Trek marathon weekend. _________________ Bob Flag is Watching You. |

Saw it, rather good.
I liked the new actors in the old roles.
Decent story.
Maybe a bit to much action.
The alternate history was a bit of an obvious get out, but leaves it nicely open for some new stories.
Still can't see why the Romulans looks so different.
Rather convenient the way all the characters met up.
Not sure why all those cadets ended up with permenant role on the Federation flag ship. _________________ Just Have Fun |

Are we gonna have spoilers here? I can't rant about the things that annoyed me without using spoilers.
One thing I have to say that was positive was the portrayal of the Vulcans, especially Quinto as Spock. At least they understood what makes Vulcans so interesting. One of Sarek's lines to Spock summed it up very well. _________________

There's a certain token comic relief scene I don't think highly of, and a development Scotty makes. Most of the rest was fine.
They could have done a bit more establishing with the Academy for example.
Most of the casting was very good. _________________ A Random Me

**SPOILERS****
I saw it last night and thought it was very good
I thought it was very clever the way they created the alternate reality so trekkies wouldn't be able to nit pick things that didn't fit in with the cannon from the original series.
My only objections were to the emotionalism of the Vulcans. Spock would already be engaged to T'Pring (Amok time), so cavorting with another woman would be unthinkable. Also, he was cavorting in public, very bad taste for a logical race. We know that Vulcans feel emotion but keep it in control so although what Sarek said was probably true, discussing it was also bad taste. My main problem is that if you make Vulcans emotional, they just become humans with pointly ears and they cease to be alien.
I also thought that Scott was the weakest character and just seemed to be there for comic relieft.
A major plus was McCoy. I hated him in the original series as he was so racist (to Spock) and argumentative. I really liked him in this film which was a bonus (and he was better looking) _________________ All shall reap as they sow.... except the amateur gardener. |
