It's just messaging a particular user, much like email or the like (except I can get at it at work).
If you look at the top between "profile" and "log out" there's a bit that says if you have new messages, or none. In theory when the setting is on a message will pop-up hen you arrive at the forum letting you know you have new ones. _________________ A Random Me

I'm using Deerpark and if sproutlore had tried to open a pop-up when I was PM'd it would have notfied me... So I think there's a pattern present. _________________

There's definitely something going on with JavaScript in forum pages. When you submit a post it's supposed to direct you back to the message page and it doesn't. I will have to investigate. _________________ And Elvis said unto Eve

Well, I've had 3 private messages, the first 2 of which popped up like they were supposed to. Then the next one didn't. Go figure. |

Okay, I think I found the problem.
As far as I can see, it should never have worked (go figure, Otto).
Maybe there was some majical mechanism going on in the background that I missed.
Hopefully it should now work as it should. Someone please try it out and let me know. _________________ And Elvis said unto Eve

Still doesn't seem to be working for me - IE6 on XP2, but I do have stuff locked down pretty tight, so if it relies on Javascript that might be killing it.
I'll try from work tomorrow - my work laptop is much less restricted, but I can't be arsed to switch it on tonight. _________________

My pop up killer now shouts at me when I get a message, so it must be working! _________________ "In the kingdom of the blind, the one eyed man is king" - Geert Geerts |

Ahhhhha yes! I must have blocked popups from sproutlore.com at some point in the past.
Working now! _________________
