What is Brentcon 1?

This August sees the release of Robert Rankin's next book Knees Up Mother Earth, the seventh book in his Brentford Trilogy.

As Brentford has always held a special place in the heart of all club members, we put our thinking caps on at Sproutlore Central, and decided to celebrate this release, by way of a big party. This then turned into a series of events in different venues, which has now more or less turned into a full on, all weekend convention around the famous borough of Brentford. This will be a relaxing weekend, without the mayhem of previous cons.

You will need to be a member of Sproutlore (The Official Robert Rankin Fan Club) to attend the weekend. All members may also bring along a non-member guest.

Friday

Stripes Bar at the Brentford FCFriday we will be having the official launch of Knees Up Mother Earth. The venue for this launch is well connected with Brentford FC, its STRIPES BAR and we hope to have guests from the club along.

Robert will be launching his book, and then we will be having live music from both of his bands - 'The Rock Gods' and 'Soliloqouy'. Music and drinking will continue late into the night.

Saturday

Saturday will see a change in tempo as we move to the Waterman's Arts Centre.

The Waterman's Arts CentreThe theatre will be the area we will be using, and we are intending to bring you a number of talks or panels to rivet you to your seats, make you gasp in awe and generally astound and entertain you (hopefully). These will be based upon the various aspects of The Brentford Trilogy - from 'The Mythology of the Brentford Area' through to 'The Science of the Brentford Books', along with a signing of Knees Up Mother Earth in the evening.

And of course we will have access to a bar all day.

That night we will be having a Themed Fancy Dress Disco (this won't be in the Arts centre), the theme being characters from the Brentford Books - so pull out your tweed suits, dust off the cowboy one (from January) and pop to the greengrocers for some 'magic beans'! We hope to bring you celebrity guest DJ's of magnificence, and have a grand night of revelry.

Sunday

The Memorial LibraryWe will have a leisurely start on Sunday. There's an outdoors venue for a number of activities, including an 'Official Ceremony', a picnic and then as base for the Pan-Brentford Treasure Hunt, which will see teams, running about, using clues, errrr hunting… A short walking tour of the borough including a visit to various hallowed grounds will end up in a privately booked locally renowned Pub.

The evening will be one of Beer, Auctions, Raffles, Beer, Prize giving, Lots of Beer, and maybe a bit of music.
